Default Home Network Building - Wired

Evening All,
Im looking to set up a neat and tidy wired home network from the router downstairs. Its been running solid since i set it up many moons ago but it's now got to the point where I'm fed up of the wires trailing around the house and getting squashed in door frames. What im hoping to do (with a little help) is set it all up so there's ethernet boxes fixed to the wall in each room upstairs.

There will be a wire running from the router downstairs up to my room where the first ethernet box will be, there will then be another ethernet box in another room upstairs...

What i need help with is the wire used. I can get my hands on double junction boxes and backplates and crimpers. Do i just use the normal Cat5e Patch Cable thats currently being used?

Also will I notice a reduced speed in the internet (Me and my bro are big gamers online) with the internet running through one wire to the router? or will i need one wire per ethernet box?

I've had a look on the net for help on this but have been unable to find such help.

Cheers all
Rhys

Thanks Gandalf.
I've had a read of that and it's quite helpful.

Hi rhysduk - Welcome to PCHF!

If you connect 1 wire to a switch(ethernet box) upstairs + one pc connected to that - and then run another cable off that switch in another room with another switch again and connect a pc to that - then yes you will experience a slight drop in performance. If you're going to run cabling in the first place then you may as well run a dedicated cable to each pc upstairs.

Hi DIIRE.
Thanks for the reply and confirming it.
Looks like a few wires will be needed then.. Not to worry.

Any tips for wiring junction boxes ethernet style?

Thanks, Rhys
