Telstra provides my internet access and I was unsure about whether to contact them or not as before I was with iPrimus but I had the same issue with them.

Thanks for the image posting.

While there is always information packets (called housekeeping) going back and forth between the host and the server ...as DIIRE suggested... you would need to query your ISP for a breakdown on how they calculate the numbers.

Thanks. I'll contact the ISP and try breaking it down, but what if this doesn't show anything?

I do not deal in what ifs. Let us know what the ISP says.

Telstra charge both uploads and downloads against your quota. The only traffic they don't charge is if it's from a Telstra website, Optus do the same thing.

However you stated if you download a file thats e.g. 300mb then you get billed for 600mb. If this is correct then i would call Telstra and get to them to check it for you.

I would do a few test downloads first though, only small files that you know the size of, and make a log of them. If the file is 30mb and you can see 60mb listed against your usage for that day then definately call them and tell them you've been checking the file size against what they have listed and that it's incorrect.
