Default Benifits of a network

A network is when two or more computers are connected with each other which allow them to share information and many other things.

The server is much more powerful computer which can hold all the files which the client has on their computer, for example if you wanted all the computers to have a specific programme such as Dreamweaver, you install it on the server and it will send the programme to all the computers on the network.

When using a network there can be many advantages however many disadvantages at the same time. Here are some that I have thought of:

Advantages:

· Sharing resources
· Allow access to remote computers
· Allows connections to different computers
· Allows electronic emails
  • Productivity and efficiency may be increased because of large scale, cost production runs
· Smaller businesses can compete with each other
  • Resources are conserved as only one item of equipment is needed where before many might have been required
  • The worldwide exchange of information is increased

Disadvantages:

If a fault occurs then non of the users will be able to access it
  • If the size of the network is large it will be hard to maintain
  • As traffic increases on a network the performance degrades unless it is designed properly.
  • Decisions on resource planning tend to become centralized.
  • It is difficult to make the system secure from hackers, novices or industrial espionage.
  • If the network stops operating then it may not be possible to access to various computers
  • Networks that have grown with little thought can be inefficient in the long term.

My overall conclusion of having a network on a computer is that it is very useful, without a network user would not be able to share resources with each other, would have to deliver a certain document to a colleague and browse the internet. Having a network in a business is cost efficient and saves time.
