Default networking stuff

In this report I will list and give you a brief description of all the software and hardware components you would need to create and run a network.

There are two ways to connect your computer to the network and they are a wireless router or an Ethernet cable that goes straight from your pc to the hub or router which ever you are using.

Wireless connection:
To get your computer onto a wireless connection you will need to get a wireless router which you can get from any local computer store and then you will need a wireless network card or a wireless network adaptor (Depending on the computer) these should be built in to the computer if not you will need to fit it your self or get somebody to do it provisionally. There are images of the wireless card and adaptor below to help you see what you need.

·

Laptops:
If have a fairly modern laptop that you want to connect to a network it is fairly easy to do because all laptops are fully wireless capable this means that they already have wireless card in built as they are designed to be move from place to place. This means that you can access the internet and your networks from virtually anywhere in your work place.

Desktop Workstations:
Desktop workstations are designed to stay at your work place or at home they can’t be moved around like laptops. This also means that they haven’t got in built wireless capabilities but they can be adapted for this, you can get wireless network cards which you can purchase from any computer store. When you purchase one of these you would need to fit it, you can fit it yourself if you feel that you can or if you choose you can get it fitted by a professional which would cost you a bit more.

Hello Batsey,

I would like to add this to our information archive, however there are some errors I would like to point out above:
- There is no picture attached
- Not all laptops have wireless capability. Some laptops require a wireless devices, such as PCMCIA card or USB adaptor. A USB adaptor can also be purchased for workstations too.

- Why is there a second post at: http://www.pchelpforum.com/network-h...2-network.html (from the same address / different username?), has some errors too:
- Uninterruptible... power supply?
- Servers are not application programmes, but they may (but not always) have an application installed on one. They do provide a service.
- Modems connect to servers or hosts rather than other computers. Quite often cofusing when referred to as a computer.

I think its kids posting homework or essay cheats. They were doing it a couple of weeks ago and it's from the same school again. North East Surrey College of Technology Further Education. Maybe we should email the school.
