I have a laptop and desktop, both running vista. I've set up a sync partnership so I keep everything on my desktop and sync just the few things I need on my laptop.

Intermittently the laptop has shown my desktop as "disconnected" from the network and thus cannot sync. But they are on the same network (desktop hardwired and laptop over wi-fi), same workgroup, and have worked in the past. Usually a restart on my laptop will make it so the desktop is seen as connected. But now, after restarting many times it still shows as disconnected.

Anyone familiar with Vista networking and sync? You're help is appreciated.

Thanks for the links. I've actually been through most of the Microsoft stuff on syncing and non of it has helped. I think I have more of a network issue where my computer won't recognize that another computer is connected.

Another note about my connection issue, when it has worked I've always had to enter my desktop password on my laptop for it to be able to view the desktop drives. It typically prompts me for the password automatically, except when I'm having this issue of no connectivity then it never prompts me.

When you set sync up did you set it to ask for password?

This password feature is a part of Vista.

I know I've turned of user accounts on my desktop. I'll have to check on the laptop. I can't remember if I set the sync to ask for a password, I'll have to check here in a bit.

I've tried turning all my user account controls off and turning off password requirements in the network and sharing center. no luck. any other suggestions?
