Default [Answered] Newbie help for setting up newtork.

I am getting ready to get high speed internet via a company that offers microwave internet. The only options I have where I live is Dial-Up, Satellite, and Microwave. I want to play games via X-Box Live and Satellite has to much latency, so my best bet is microwave. Anyways, I want to use the high speed connection for both my computer and my x-box 360. I plan to connect my x-box 360 and my computer directly via CAT-5e cable not wireless. Here is a router I was looking at getting, just in case someday I want wireless internet.

Walmart.com : Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster Technology : Computers

I think this should work to connect both my computer and x-box 360, but I am worried about this router slowing down my connection speed. Will this router slow down my speed? And if so, what kind of router or switch do you guys recommend that won't slow down my connection. Also, if I use 50 feet of Cat-5e cable, will that slow down my connection speed? Thanks a lot!

The router shouldn't slow your connection as long as you have it set up correctly. 50ft is fine.
If try to download stuff on pc and play xbox online at the same time you will get lag on the xbox.

The linksys has QoS - you can set it up to give either the pc or xbox bandwidth priority. You can also set it up so that certain applications or games get more bandwidth. E.G you're downloading a file on pc - you fire up xbox to play a game online - if QoS is setup to give game priority, pc download will slow and xbox will get priority. There's a number of ways you can setup QoS.

Post back if you need help with how to set this up to best suit your needs.
