Default IP and connection

Im using a router and i remember setting up a static IP awhile back... I also remember when I unhooked my PC from my router and hooked it directly to the PC I didnt get an internet connection. But when I hook the router back up it works fine. My question is Ill be direct connecting the PC to my modem again as Ill be getting rid of the router for awhile. How do I get my net access to work while the pc is hooked directly to the modem again?
