Default [Fixed] Dormroom wifi confusion

I live in some dormatories at my college and they provide wireless internet access to students. But my brother and I have our own internet connection through AT&T through the phoneline in our room, there is one other person in the dorms that also has his own internet acess through AT&T also..
Anyhow, people in the dorms have been complaining about bad wifi connections and the tech guys at school say it is probably because of the wifi routers we (with seperate internet conections) have confliting with the frequencies of the schools wifi. Is this an accurate assumption for the school to be making? And if so, how can I fix this, if it is fixable?

Yes that can happen if there are too many wifi devices on similar channels in close proximity to each other. You can change the channel on the wireless settings tab on the modem. Your modems factory default is channel 6
Try changing the channel to somewhere between 8-11 and see if that helps. You can only use channels 1-11 in the US. You could check with the it dept what channel their wireless runs on and make sure that you pick one that is different by atleast 2 channels. E.g if they use channel 5 make yours 1-3 or 7-11
