Smile [Answered] wifi adaptor range

Hi only just discovered this forum.

Can anyone give info on how to make my usb wifi adaptor more powerful to pick up a signal from a greater range? I have the Belkin N1 which has one of the greatest ranges I can find. Im very close to a free wifi hotspot which would be useful to reach from my home(I can reach it sitting outside but not up on 3rd floor!). Cheers

Im only familular with conventional usb wifi adaptors. All these other aerials I find confusing! Im not sure where they connect to(I dont use a router myself). How do they compare to normal usb adaptors in terms of range coverage?

USB adaptors depending on what brand and speed they are.Maybe you need to buy one of a higher range or distance than you have now.

You are in a building the walls will reduce the adaptors range.

I have the draft N Netgear one but have also tried belkins draft N adaptor too. Both say they have a range of 3-400 metres but theyre still not powerful enough for my needs. Does anyone know of more far reaching aerials?
