Smile [Resolved] Broadband Connection Keeps Dropping

I have been experiencing intermittent broadband problems for some months now.

I am on BT Broadband and up until last week was using a BT Voyager USB modem.

The problem was that my internet connection would drop and would only come back on again if I rebooted the PC. This was happening 3 or 4 times a day. BT were of the opinion that it was the Voyager's fault so I decided to go wireless and bought a D-link wireless router.

I have connected my main desktop PC to the D-Link router via LAN.

I connect my laptop via wireless.

Both machines run XP SP2.

All was working fine until this morning when the connection on my desktop PC dropped again. In an effort to determine whether the probIem lay with the PC or with the router I then tried to connect my laptop via wireless, but this wouldn't connect either.

I rebooted the desktop PC and Hey Presto...........I got a connection straight away and this solved the problem on both machines!

I had already tried a new filter but to no avail, but just in case the new filter is faulty, I'm now trying yet another filter.

Any ideas? Is the fact that a computer restart resolves the issue pertinent? Does the fact that I couldn't connect via wireless say anything?

Hello, well lets say the BT Voyager is total rubbish and has been discontinued and not realy used any more.
You are connected via USB this in its self slows your connection right down.

You are BT thats another problem. You pay for UP TO speed not exact speed. You do not get what you pay for.If you pay for 2 meg and your areas internet gets busy you maybe lucky to get 1/2 meg during busier times of the day.The further you are from the exchange the slower your internet.

You need to go into device manager and update network adaptors drivers.

Open web page and click on toools and scroll to internet options. The delete temp files/cookies and history.

The main problems are BT Voyager,USB connection and busy times of the day slow your connection right down.
Instead of rebooting PC reboot the modem as in BT Voyager.

The BT Voyagers are a problem on there own.

Did you also run wireless network setup wizard on both machines?

I am also thinking BT blocks a wirless router the same as AOL,unless you pay them more cash for there home hubs.

They block the wirless router that you buy so you have to then pay more monthly charges to use there home hubs.

Thanks for replying.

However, you seem to have completely missed the point - my speeds are fine. In fact, I am more than happy with this side of things as I have said before.

I don't know about other PCH users, but I personally, look to PCH to find unbiased technical help and advice........not an unremitting diatribe as to the (as you see it) inadequacies of BT.

Having followed the unbiased and helpful technical advice given elsewhere on this site, I have now resolved my problem.

Thank you.
