Unhappy DHCP Client broken

Hi all,

During trouble shooting a problem with one of my networks due to perpetual 'Acquiring Network Address' problems, I discovered that DHCP client was not functioning and when I try to Start it it comes up with the following error message:

Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer.

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I don't know how long this problem has existed or if it has ever worked, but is there a way to fix it? Googling the problem has resulted in just increased frustration and very little insight into the problem.

Is there some way of getting around the problem if I can't fix the DHCP Client?

Thanks for your time,

David

You could use a static ip address. I typically use an ip number that is around 20-30 on my home network because we only have about 5 people who use it. setting a lower number might conflict with the dhcp(?). Here is a good guide to doing that.

read all that and it seems that all that is fine. Checked the service again and it still comes up with the same error.

As for the static IP address, I have one already.
