Default Belkin Wireless G vs. BT Broadband

hello,

this is an attempt to resolve two days of fiddling with settings and another really frustrating day battling with foreign call centres, both belkin & BT and both to no avail.

maybe someone can shed some light?

currently running BT broadband using a speedtouch usb modem, works fine.

in an attempt to go wireless have purchased a belkin F5D7632-4 modem/router.

it seems that it won't recognise the phoneline/broadband. the phone still works.

connect it to the computer, can log in to the control panels, change settings etc.
the wireless seems to work, other computers can see it.

on the router only the power, wireless & ethernet lights show. no 'phone' or 'web' lights.

the status says 'connecting' endlessly.

took first router back, still same symptoms, so looks more likely a line/settings issue.

naturally both call centres have been useless, both offer a narrow range of set questions and both blame each other.

any ideas?

please

many thanks

Marcus

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Have you setup or run setup wireless network wizard on all PC/Laptops?

How are you connecting this router?USB,eithernet cable?

There is a switch on the router to use cable connect or wireless?

thanks for welcome and thanks for reply.

ok.

Have you setup or run setup wireless network wizard on all PC/Laptops?
all three laptops currently pick up the wireless signal, eg: the name of the network is visible, the laptop connects but is unable to reach the internet.

How are you connecting this router?USB,eithernet cable?
ethernet during setup.

There is a switch on the router to use cable connect or wireless?
no, it can do both at the same time.

Belkin support has been frustrating, they have given up and told me to return it. i've already done this once, but the second unit was the same. i believe it's more likely to be a BT issue but they won't accept any possibility of this as the old usb modem works.

thanks again, glad i found this forum.

The problem can be BT there attitude is the same as AOL.

Unless you buy there equipment they will give you no help.

Virginmedia sell wireless routers but do NOT support them.

AOL blocks you from using a router unless you pay them a higher charge to connect using there equipment.

Or do you needa splitter cable?

Take it back and get a simple D-Link router I have never had trouble setting them up and installing them.

BT could be doing an AOL blocking the router connection unless you use there BT home hubs.Pay more cash to BT.

I honestly hope it gets sorted out.But have a feeling its BT?

Are you using a splitter to modem?Wich way are you using a slitter?one port for modem and one for phone?

Ok I just sorted this one out,you can get a free upgrade with BT for there home hub.Wich you can connect wireless other computers ring BT for it,it is free.Return the wireless router and get cash back.

No extra on your bill to pay either.
