Default How to "split" a connection

Hi,

I'm going to buy a SIP phone soon, which needs to plug into my router. My computer currently has a very long patch cable running through the attic to the router, and I don't particularly want to run another one, so how can I use the same cable for both my PC and my phone?

I thought I would probably need another router, but would an RJ45 splitter do it?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.

If this is dial up you can buy double and triple connections from Argos/Woolworths/B&Q/Wicks.

The SIP Phone may require an adaptor, wich make and model are you considering in buying?

If you give us a little more information on the setup etc we can help you a little more?

This is the phone I'm looking at: VOIP SIP Internet IP Phone 2 concurrent calls 2 Account on eBay, also, VoIP Internet Telephones, Networking, Computing (end time 15-Mar-08 21:57:33 GMT)

I'm on broadband, with the modem linked into a router which is connected to the other PCs in the house. I've already got a patch cable running from the room where I want the phone to the router (as there's a PC already in there). So I'll need to either run another cable, or "split" this one up. I'm guessing I'd do this with a hub (not a router as I stated in my original post), or would an RJ45 splitter work on the end of the patch cable?

The phone also has both a LAN and a WAN socket - does that mean I can plug the PC into the phone, then the phone into the router?

Thanks!

It definitely plugs straight into the router, but if I were to do that I'd need to put another cable through the roof. So I'd like to use the one I already have, but I'm using it for my PC. I need to know how to share it between them.
