Your problems could be caused by a number things. If there are other wireless networks within range of yours then this could cause the problems you have especially if they have the same ssid as yours. It could also be your settings in windows. First for the router.
Log into your router. Go to the wireless settings.

1. If the SSID is NETGEAR - change it to something else like HomeNetwork or whatever you want to call it.

2. Make sure the region setting is correct.

3. Change the channel to 1 or 6

4. Make sure mode is set to g and b.

5. Security options - I would use WPA-PSK if you already have this setup then just leave it. Otherwise change it to WPA-PSK - type in a passphrase. Click Apply.

If you had to change the SSID or Security options you will have retype your passphrase to connect wirelessly again.

Check your windows settings - In the Wireless Connection Window click Change the order of preferred networks to the left. Click Advanced. Make sure Access Point (infrastructure) networks only is selected and make sure there is no tick in Automatically connect to non-preferred networks. Click close.
If there are any other networks displayed in the preferred box - highlight them and click remove. Hightlight your network > click properties > on the Authentication tab make sure there is no tick in Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network. Click OK.

Post back if you still have problems.

Open Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Type: www.routerlogin.net You will be prompted for a username and password. The username is Admin and the password is password.

If you can't access it by typing the above, then click Start > Run > type: CMD > Click OK

At the prompt type: ipconfig Press Enter

Find the listing "default gateway" Type the default gateway IP address into Internet Explorer. Enter the username as per above.

If you still have problems - read your manual it has detailed instructions on how to access the router to change settings.

ok, the only thing I saw was to change to channel to 1, it was on 11.

It seemed to work better for a little while but now its doing it again. Bad slow connections and constently disconnecting. In the time Its taken me to write this post, my connection has gone out twice. . ..

But my brother on the computer next to me, on the same connection, is having no trouble at all.

:-(
