i was able to ping my own computer, but i don't have any other addresses to try, what do you suggest?

i managed to find another IP address but it was unreachable.... so thats no joy, except we know i can't access external computers.

Thanks for your help jelly bean, could you try and find that second post as you posted the same link twice (oops thats the sort of thing i do!) so still no internet access, no ping option, is there anything you can suggest?

Hello all, still no further on with this, I think Jelly Bean has done all she can (thanks for all your help trying) so I think I will throw it back open. Any takers?

go to wireless connection properties and check the TCP/IP properties.

Sounds like could be a DNS issue.

Are IP and DNS servers both chosen to select automatically? If not, try that.

If the router has its own firewall try turning it off then try to reconnect.Or go to exceptions tab and allow the connection to other pc

Have you tried direct cable connection to modem or router?
What is your internet service provider and what make n model of router?Please.
