When i connect my modem directly to me PC (i.e not using a router) i cant get internet access.... but when i connect my modem to a router and my pc to a router the internet works fine... how is it possible i get no access with a direct connection but it works fine with a router? (and no nothing is wrong with the ethernet cables)

Hi there, check that you don't have a static IP set (Go to control panel > Network Connections > Right click your network connection and click properties > Scroll down to Internet Protocol and click properties and make sure obtain automatically is selected)

Then make sure you reboot the modem properly.

Possibly try renewing your IP lease (Go to start > Run > type cmd and hit enter, from there type "ipconfig /release" without quotes and then press enter, then type "ipconfig /renew" and hit enter, again without quotes)

Hopefully that should get the job done (hopefully)
