hi to anyone that can help

I have just installed a belkin router and it is now working fine i am using my pc as i write on the net.

i turned my laptop on and it connected straight away (i did go back to the router set up and change the password so that it was secure)

Hi there mate, can you ping other computers/the gateway on the local network?

(If you do not know how to do this, go to Start -> Run -> Type cmd and press Enter. Now type ipconfig and press enter, take note of the Default Gateway. Now type ping <gateway address> (for instance if your default gateway was 192.168.0.1 the command would be "ping 192.168.0.1") and hit enter, do you get a reply or does it time out?)

Right well it seems to have connected ok, can you try pinging this 72.14.207.99 (google) and see if you get a reply, this will rule out DNS issues.

Ok mate, in my opinion that leaves it down to 2 things.

The first is proxy issues, go into internet options in ie and check that you are not using a proxy.

If that doesn't work go to Control Pannel -> Network Connections -> Right click the connection that you are using and click properties -> Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties.

Now change from obtain automatically to use these settings, fill out your ip address, subnet and default gateway (remember the ipconfig earlier? ;-) ) and now under the DNS section put in your default gateway as preferred DNS server and click ok, now see if things work

Hope this helps -Lebowski
