okay so here's the deal. I had set up a wireless network at a coworkers house for him and had the wireless router docked at his desktop. his laptop is not able to use the connection anymore. they called verizon, their ISP and verizon had said that it was because of the desktop. they have decided to do away with the desktop, as it was pretty old anyway, and want me to come do that for them.

what will I have to do with the router? I know I had to "bridge" the router with the desktop, so now that it will be desktop-less, what is the protocol.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to achieve. Are you saying that you are removing the router from the network and therefore the PC also? Have you replaced the router?
