Ok. Connect to your wireless network, go into Control panel> performance and maintnence> System> harware> hardware manager and tell me if there any yellow question marks on there. if so, tell me what it says, so i can make sure its your network adaptor. BTW, what kind of ethernet card do you have, is it integrated on the motherboard, or is it a PCI card?

I'm sorry, I should've said this in the original post, but in my frustration (and stupidity), I reinstalled Windows, which cleared everything. I thought this would enable me to start fresh, which it did not. If it helps, I ran a deep clean program on my hard drive (another stupid move) a few months ago, and when I reinstalled it, I had to reinstall my wireless software, find video and audio codecs and everything. I don't know very much about computers, except how to destroy them apparently. I can't even connect wirelessly with that computer anymore, because I gave the dongle that was in my computer to a relative (which is why I needed to hook it up landline.) Sorry. The computer I use is an eMachine. very weak, but when it came from Wal-Mart, we hooked it up landline, and it worked then , so i don't know if that answers your last question.
