Hi there and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Firstly, you can ditch the SpeedTouch. The ADSL part of the Belkin router will do that job for you. You need to go into the Belkin setup and enter your ISP logon details into the ADSL config page. This will make a connection to the Internet thru Orange for your router to then dish out the signal to the PCs that sit "inside" the wireless local area network (your home).

Well, thanks so very much, its a start, so get shut of speedtouch external modem. Got it.
How do i go into belkin set up? It came with a disc but it is simply a manual in file form.
I typed in 192.168.2.1 to url but obviously cant help me cos itsnot online yet as not set up?
confused again but sure you's can help.
I saw a diagram somewhere on net showing the external modem set up side by side with adsl router, obviously this is not right.
If i set belkin wireless router up i dont get the telephone led lit up despite the filter being inline.
God i am so confused, give me a dented car anyday and im there, computers , noooo !!

Hey Matt,

The first thing you will need to do is gain access to the settings for the router. It doesn't matter that the router isn't setup yet to access the internet - you can still connect to the router to see and change its settings, as long as the router is powered up.

You can connect to the router wirelessly, of course, but I find the best way to connect when setting up is via an ethernet cable. Plug one end into one of the ethernet ports on the back of the router, and the other end into an ethernet port on any computer. You should be connected pretty much instantly - in Windows XP you'll get a little speech bubble popping up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen telling you that you're connected.

The next thing to do is to load up your preferred web browser, and type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar, and press enter. You should now see a webpage (this webpage is actually stored inside the router) which allows you to change the router's settings. The first thing you may need to do is enter a password; I can't remember what the default password is on Belkin routers, but the documentation that came with the router should tell you.

You might be able to work things out for yourself here using the documentation that came with the router, but if you need any more help could you post the model number of the router? I can then look up the manual online and work out exactly how you need to set things up.

To jim0203,

thanks for replying, i am at my wits end!!
Modem is Belkin ADSL modem with wireless router G 802.11g 54 mbps
I am doing as you advise, however when i plug ethernet cable to Pc (XP) i does not indicate it is there like you say. But when i take it out it tells me a LAN has been disconnected??
I must say, i am confused as h**l now.
When i open my browser, obviously not online now, i type in 192.168.2.1 but am simply advised webpage is unavailable..obviously as am not online.
I am connected to a laptop now directly through ext modem to send this.
I feel more frustrated than a christmas turkey on hunger strike!!!

Hi,

Firstly, there should be a model number on the bottom of the router: probably starting FD. That's what I need to work out exactly what router it is.

A few more questions in the meantime:

(1) Is the router plugged in, and are there lights flashing on the front of it?
(2) Are you using a standard ethernet card in the computer that you're connecting to the router, or is it the "USB ethernet" thing you mentioned before?

Jim. Hi!

It says " ADSL 2 + Modem with Wireless G router model # F5D7632-4.

I am running the net from external speedtouch that plugs in tower via USB.

I dont know anything about network interface ethernet things , but seem to be picking it up s l o w l y .

There is a socket next to USB sockets at rear which is for ethernet cable ( larger phone plug?).

I really dont know what i have done but now have an icon lower right with two screens and a red cross says LOCAL AREA CONNECTION a network cable is unplugged, however, it is in its place. This icon sits alongside my usual 2 screens showing my usual connection to Orange BB.

When i try to set router up, : Power led is lit.... 1st Pc led is lit ( of 4 )... wireless signal is lit.... and phone led flashes a few times then goes out but i can still dial out on phone.

Does this help??

Thanks in advance.

Matt
