I'm not expert in the Networking field by all means but if your ISP is requiring you to use a static IP then I don't believe you can change it. My ISP requires me to use a static IP and the settings are set in the router but my pcs are set to obtain an IP automatically.

What are your security issues? Do you use a Firewall?

Hi Most of the time you will need to ring the ISP to either change your static ip address or to change it to a server assigned address which most of them are.

It also depends on your ISP. My ISP gave me a static ip, but I can change it to any ip out of a block of 8 they gave me all in a line like:

*.*.*.101
*.*.*.102
etc ..
