Hi,
I recently let my new housemate try and put both XP and Ubuntu Linux onto my pc which has two very large hard drives. Didn't work. We broke it. Now that I've put XP back on my ethernet out doesn't seem to work. I've installed all the the drivers that were on the motherboard CD, but still it doesn't seem to recognise the internet when I plug in the ethernet cable. I've tried the 'install new hardware' option but it says everything is happy. I've downloaded wierd driver thingys off of strange websites but I'm having no luck.
Have I proper broken it, or is there a solution to this problem?

no you did not break it just by software installation.

check your device manager, right click on your my computer icon, click properties, click hardware and then click device manager.

see if any LAN devices are listed there and if yes then is there a yellow ? icon with them??

Cool. I'm downloading that as I type. I've had a look at the device manager and there isn't any yellow upset ones there. Very confusing business. With the new Driver installed it might find it.

That didn't work. Bummer. It doesn't recognise that I have network hardware installed on my pc, but the ethernet LAN thingy is integrated on the P23G motherboard. In 'Add Hardware' it doesn't recognise any pieces of hardware which aren't working properly.
I've tried inserting my interent RJ45 cable on numerous occasions but it just doesn't recognise it. I've tried the network wizard, but as before it doesn't recognise any network devices.
I think it's broke, broke.
