My home network has developed a fault, any ideas people?
I have 2 PCs connected to a Linksys wireless router with cable.
There is a notebook connected wirelessly to the same router.
All computers connect to the internet with no problem, and up until recently all computers could "talk" to each other, share files and the printer with no problem. All computers are visible on the "view workgroup computers" on each of the machines. PC 1 (wired) can access PC 2 (wired) but PC 2 cannot do the same to PC 1. Neither of the 2 PC's can access the notebook anymore, and the notebook can only access PC 2. When attempting to open up either the PC or the notebook, I am told that "
\\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource etc..." No machine can print using the shared printer connected to PC 1.
This never used to be the case, everything worked well until a couple of days ago. I have looked at windows troubleshooting for a mixed network, made sure the connections on PC 1 is bridged. That option is not available on PC 2. The notebook when bridged loses the internet connection, although it is still showing full strength wireless signal.
I have re set up home networking on all the machines, renaming the group and the computers but that did not help, the router has not been accessed and changed.
As an aside PC 1 will not system restore although all the restore points are visible, so I assume something has gone amiss with this PC.
All computers are running XP.
Hope that is clearer than mud!! Any help much appreciated.
The only change was removing AVG anti virus, and replaced it with Kaspersky AV V7. I have retried again after uninstalling the AV software to no avail.
