Default [Resolved] reset WRT54G. connected, but not net.

I was helping someone taking virusus off their desktop computer. Anyways, I pressed reset on their WRT54G router and now the net doesnt want to work. I have read other forums and see that many people have problesm with linksys. What could be the problem?

I am a complete noob to routers. I have never used a router before, so now I have to try to fix one.

the dsl modem is connected to the router with a yellow ethernet cable, and the router is connected to the pc with a blue cable. They have a I.p. It's sending packets, and reacives them, but no net showing.

The only error I could find was when I did trouble shooting and scanned the computer. It came up with the network card in the pc failed in DNSserversearch. yet in driver device there is not exclimation mark and it says it is working.

This wireless router is used only for a laptop (still have checked how I will fix that yet).

any extra info about routers would be awesome. Do routers have a local I.p. to change it's settings? I'm new so any little things can help!

If you reset it via the button on the router it puts it back to factory defaults. You will need to put all of there setting back in so it will work. You usually configure it in internet explorer via it's IP address.

ah great. Where would be a good place to start? How would I find the I.P. address to configure it, and a manual to see how to configure it. How hard is it to configure it back to normal 1 being least and 10 the highest.

There is a manual here http://web.mit.edu/ghudson/manuals/WRT54G-manual.pdf you will also need his ISP username and password to set it up.

Was the router supplied by his ISP? if it was they will assist you in the setup of it.

1 more important thing. If I push reset on the wireless router, does it also reset the modem configuration?

UPDATE: I got it working . Thanks for the help. Now I just need to add security and more.
