Was just trying to do it without buying a router!
from typing it into google there are loads of people that seem to know how to do it with ethernet cables and things like that however the instructions are for god rather than the less than average pc user!!!

Anyone else got any ideas ????

Thanks.

To connect two computer together using the ethernet (RJ45) ports you need a cable with the 4-5 wire crossed otherwise you're trying to send and receive down the same wire which will never work.

Routers have the crossover built into them so generally you buy RJ45 cables which are called "Straight Through"

If you talk to your local shop they should be able to supply (or make) a cable with the crossover.

This will work
