Default Linksys Unable to connect wireless

I have DSL with a wireless Linksys Router. I contacted my ISP provider and they were able to fix the internet connection, but I am unable to connect wirelessly. I can only connect by using a cord from the router to my laptop. I have another laptop that is connected wirelessly, having no problems. I have this laptop here, but I am unable to connect wirelessly like the other laptop. The wireless router I am Using is a Wireless B Broadband router. (802.11b). My ISP told me to contact Linksys tech on phone. When I called it asked for a 5 digit number and I dont have one o.o; ... This is my dad's computer and he is computer illiterate. I was hoping I could get it solved before he kills the wireless router...which would suck. He actually went to his friends house to see if he can fix his laptop. The laptop ended up working at his friends house, but not at home. My dad had a DELL computer >> Insoiron E1505. The manuals for the Linksys are gone and dunno what to do.

Hello Duerga,

First I would do the obvious things. Make sure the wireless switch is on (if it is built in to the laptop). Try powering off the router, modem, laptop then turning them all back on. If none of the obvious stuff works, try setting the laptop to transmit and receive in B only.

Control panel -> Network Connections -> Right click your wireless connection -> Properties -> Configure your wireless adapter -> Advanced Tab -> Then look for something like 802.11 Mode, Transmit Mode, 54G mode, etc -> Then switch it to B only.

Also, while you're in there, double check your TCP/IP properties and make sure they are all set to Automatic. I'm sure they are since the unit worked at the friends house with no problem.

If none of that works, I would check your router settings to make sure you don't have some sort of security turned on that is preventing your laptop from connecting to the router. Something like MAC address filtering.

Hope any of that info helps!
