Question File sharing from Win2000 to WinXP

I just set up a wireless LAN on my WinXP computer, and my Win2000 laptop can now access the internet.
I used the XP networking wizard to set up a work group, etc. on the XP.
It then said to do the same on any other computer I wanted to connect for filesharing.
I loaded the XP setup disc onto the Win2000 laptop and installed the wizard, but is said it would work on Win98 & (obviously) XP, but not on Win2000.
I looked for some analogous utility on Win2000, but the only one I could find would only let me share the printer, not files.

How can I set up my win2000 laptop to allow me to join the work group & share files on my XP main computer?

Harvey

Hi and welcome to PCHF!

Follow these steps (might be a little different names):
  • Right click on my computer and click properties.
  • Click on the computer name tab.
  • Put the name of your computer in the Computer name text box.
  • Click on Change.
  • For Workgroup: put your workgroup (probably MSHOME).
  • Click Ok on both windows.
  • Double click on My Computer
  • Right click on your C: drive and click on Sharing and Security.
  • Place a checkmark in the box that says Share this folder on the network.
  • Check the Allow network users to change my files box if you want to.
  • Click ok on all open windows.
  • Restart your computer.
Hope this helps,
Adam
