Default [Answered] Adding computer to network

Hey all,

I have a new PC and I want to share files with my old PC (in a different room). Currently, both are connected to a wireless router (the new PC is using wireless) to access the internet.

Previously I have shared files with a laptop by setting up a network through the Microsoft Network Setup Wizard, and I had no problems, but I can't seem to get this new one to work. I'm sure it's just something simple I am overlooking/doing wrong. Both PC's are running windows XP SP2.

Cheers.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I tried what was said in the thread - it didn't work.
PC2 couldn't find the folder I wanted to share.

Hello Yarbles,

Make sure there is no security software preventing access to PC1. Also, using the IP address you obtained from PC 1, see if you can get a response from it by going to Start, Run, and type in cmd. From the command window, type ping followed by the IP address and see if you get a reply.

I tried that and the ping timed out. Then I disabled the firewall on PC1, and it worked. So I'll try setting up a new network etc (the steps given in the link).

Go to Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall
Click on Exceptions tab
Add the Ping command to the Exception list, then try the ping command again.

Good Luck...
