Default wired network help

Hi,

Im after some general help links, pointers opinions.

Ive only ever set up a basic network consisting of 4 pcs using a router and just plugging them all in via the ethernet cable supplied.

I want to make things look a bit neater and more professional by installing network outlet sockets on the wall so i can just plug in any laptop or pc in certain parts of the house.

Ive never considered wireless as i do a lot of online gaming and have thick walls so its not an option and besides i prefer wires.

At the moment i have 8mbs aol broadband connection running via my netgear dg834 router connected to two pcs and one laptop which all share the internet, printers etc. I need some help on what i need to buy, what type of cable etc, any helpful links would be great aswell..all i seem to find is wireless networking help like someone is trying to force us all to use it

Any help appreciated.

At the moment im reading this which is quite helpful The K-Zone: Installing a home computer network

Default ethernet wall bridge

hi, i actually have wall network bridges, im guessing your after the same things - u plug into electrical outlet an the plug has a short wire conencting to your computer. If you are talking about the same things i would really reccomend them. i have netgear ones and i play games such as rainbow six vegas on my xbox 360 using theses and i cannot notice the difference in speed from when i had a wire to my router.

this is the 1s i have (you need to buy two):

XE102 - NETGEAR.com

it is well worth the money, i cant believe everyone doesnt use them. there is no setting up its technically just like using a wire. the only thing u need to check is that you dont have seperate electrical rings in your house. basically all your electrics need to be on the same loop (it usually is)

hope this helps

David

Not quite what i was trying to achieve, but man they look pretty good. Im pretty sure my house is on two ring mains, 1 for downstairs and 1 for up, but that may well just be for the lighting, not sure..My dad will know he does all that sort of stuff. I was more thinking, like you have in schools, they have ports on the wall where the cables plug in, which i prosume are all connected to some sort of a hub controlled from the master system.

oh rite, i know what you mean. all what they are is a plate which goes on the wall or on trunking and it is just a female RJ45 connector rather then the male ones which we are used to (i think) they are really cheap aswell. you are going to have a big job on your hands if you want that around your house and it willa chieve the same speeds as a wired connection becasue that is basically what it is, it is just a wire that allows you to break or make the connection. i have attached a picture to see if that is what you are on about
