Default cable modem with wireless

hi all

unsure if correct place but ill ask anyway.

i was doing a job for a client, they have a cable modem attached to the pc, no problems. they also have 2 laptops that are wireless, and connect to a wireless router. the router was connected to the the modem via cable. but couldnt get them on the internet.

i reset the router, and then turned all on again, same problem.
i could get into the router wirelessly so theres no problem there, i can even connect to it. but getting the router to talk to the modem and allow internet i couldnt do.

though i cannot test anything now, any suggestions on this would be appreciated in case i get the same problem with another client.

cheers
steve

Hello Adreval,

When your cable modem is connected to the router, and one computer is connected to the router with an ethernet cable, does that computer get internet?

If so, something you can try that might help your wireless adapters is to make sure your router and the wireless adapters are all set to transmit and receive in the same protocol. Like if you have a G router and G wireless adapters, make sure they are all set to G only.

There will be a setting in the router setup that you can set. For the wireless adapters, you need to go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on the wireless adapter, properties, configure the wireless adapter, advanced tab, then there should be a setting like transmit mode, 54g mode, or something like that. Set that to G only, or whatever your router is.

Hope that helps!
