Hello antoinejones,

Below is how to reset the router.

{Hold the Reset button for up to 30 seconds and then release it. This will return the password, forwarding, and other settings on the Router to the factory default settings. In other words, the Router will revert to its original factory configuration.}

After you do the reset,

To connect to the Router, go to the web browser, and enter http://192.168.1.1. Enter the password, if asked. (The default password is admin)

If the router and PC connect we are ready for the next step...

Good Luck!

ok well i just figured out i couldnt communicate with teh router because it wasnt hooked up properly -_- now that it was hooked up properly i still have no net access but i can go to 192.168.1.1 and change configuratyions.. i also noticed it was set to obtain IP automatically (instead of ppoe) which is its normal setting) so now tha the router was hooked up properly i guess the next step is to actually get the net working while its hooked up (which it isnt right now... heres what i get on ipconfig with router connected:

C:\Documents and Settings\Terry>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

and this is what i get without it connected:

C:\Documents and Settings\Terry>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.fl.comcast.net.
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 68.35.241.224
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 68.35.240.1
C:\Documents and Settings\Terry>

as you can see the router ip is in teh defualt gateway when its connected (as opposed to before when it was blank) but the connection specific DNS suffix area is empty

without the router installed w/o the router installed the connection specific dns area isnt empty and teh defualt gateway is different

Very good antoinjones, We have made progress. Now what I need to know is the info about your ISP. Do they asign you a static IP? What protocol do they use? Did your ISP use the MAC address of your nic to enable service? If so then you will need to follow your ISPs procedure to register a new address, but using the router's MAC address. In the mean time try this...

Unplug your cable modem power and unplug the router power. Wait about 5 seconds and plug in the cable modem and wait for it to boot up.

Now plug in the router power, & wait for the router to finish starting up.

Check your router's Status screen and look to see that there is a WAN IP address and valid DNS servers listed.

TTFN!
