Unhappy Internet connection no longer working

Using win98 SE with DSL . System has been working fine, but yesterday the internet connection went down. I can connect other systems to the internet so I know it is not the modem, cable or ISP. I have already deleted temp files and history, did scan disk, checked for spyware, and checked for virus. I also checked the device manager for conflicts or problems. When I try to lauch IE 6 I get "Page cannot be found". One of the kids was on the computer when the internet quit working so I am not sure if they downloaded something or did something else to it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello gaabbott,

Welcome to PCHF, how are you connected to the internet, using a modem and usb cable, or router via an ethernet cable?

cable through router to dsl modem. I connected another computer to the same line and it works, so it seems to be the computer and not the connections, cable, router, modem, ISP, etc.

Can your PC see the router? Go to Internet Explorer to access your router page, and use the address of your router page normally 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1? Also, in Control Panel, Network Connections, under Local Area Connection x, what is the status of this?

I don't know why, but it suddenly started working again. I'm going to leave well enough for now. Thanks
