Default [Resolved] trying to set up wireless home network on three computers

Hi guys I'm back again!!!
A couple of months ago i set up a wireless home network using a Linksys router connected to my computer and a Linksys adapter on my son's computer. I recently bought a new computer and moved the old computer(the original host) into my daughters room. Silly me thought all I had to do was buy her an adapter, hook it up to her computer, and she would be on our network. When i did this her internet works fine but I can't get her computer on the network and it says her internet connection is through an unknown connection. Plus i can't get my new computer (which is the unknown internet connection) on the network either. Should I have reset the router or deleted the original network? I know how to reset the router but would be totally lost on deleting the network. This is our set up (dsl internet) my computer(the host) phone line to dsl modem to wireless router to computer. Both of my children's computers have wireless (usb)adapters. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, angusman3

Hey Angusman,

Welcome back!

Just a few claification questions.

By network, you are referring to your LAN correct?

Is you son's PC still showing a connection to the original LAN?

Have you verified the security settings are the same on the two wireless PCs.

Did you change the IP config for the now wireless PC from being the host?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, by network I meant LAN. My son's pc is still showing the original LAN connection. I have verified the same secrurity setting on the two wireless pcs. I didn't change the now wireless pc's ip config. I don't know how to do that or how to make my new pc the host. Which pc should have the internet gateway connection i noticed it's on mine and my daughters but not on my son's. I'm thinking it should only be on my pc since it's the one connected to the router. If so should I disable it or delete it from my daughters pc? Hope you can help thanks, angusman3

Hey Angusman,

Yes your PC should be the "host", and your daughter's configuration should match your son's.

Have you checked to make sure that your firewall settings are correct?

I'm going to PM our resident Networking Guru, and see if he can't give you some specific settings.

Don't worry, we'll get you hooked up.

Looking forward to your reply,

Hey Angus,

Just trying to get a clearer picture, I'm still little confused how your network is configured ATM.

You have a new PC, connected wirelessly or via ethernet cable to your wireless router?
Your daughters PC needs to be connected wirelessly to the wireless router?
Your sons PC needs to be connected wirelessly to the wireless router?

Hi madmonkey,
My new computer is connected to the router via ethernet cable. The children's computers are wireless. What I was trying to do was setup a home network(all comps in the same workgroup) for file sharing, mainly so my daughter could use the printer connected via usb cable to my computer. Sharing our internet connection is working okay. I did notice that my new computer and my daughter's computer both have the internet gateway connection in network connections, I think this should only be on my computer. Ladygreenwitch said something about using ip config to change the ip on my daughters computer. I don't know how to do this. I've tried using both the network wizard and the wireless network setup wizard several times it tells me i don't have access to the workgroup and that my internet connection is unknow, my internet is verizon dsl. Sorry to be pain but i know very little on this computer tech stuff. When i setup the new computer I just unhooked everything from the old and hooked it up to the new one, I'm sure there were probably some settings I should have changed on mine and my daughters(the old nework host) pcs. Thanks,angusman3.
