OK best,

You may have to bear with me on this one, since I've only used ME for a very short time and quickly uninstalled it after! ME is very short lived, so my instructions may not be 100% accurate when it comes to my descriptions, so if you cant find something, let me know.

OK

First of all you will need to assign an IP address and workstation name to your Windows ME machine. You will probably need your Windows ME isntallation CD for this.

- Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Go to Network
- In this section you should see "Client for Microsoft Networks", "Ethernet Adaptor" of some kind, "TCP/IP -" and "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks". If any of these are not listed, you will need to add them using the Add button. If File and Print sharing is not there, click on the File and Print Sharing button and tick both options you see here.
- Click on TCP/IP and go to Properties.
- For IP address use "192.168.1.50", subnet "255.255.255.0", gateway "192.168.1.254" and OK.
- Click on the Identification tab and give yourself an appropriate computer name that you will remember. For the sake of this example, well call this PC "Computer1".
- When you press OK, you would normally be asked for your ME CD.
- Reboot

On Windows XP:
- Go to My Computer, Control Panel, System followed by the Computer Name tab. Click on Change and give yourself another computer name (must be different to the first). For this example, well call it "Computer2".

To share a folder..

- Right click on the folder you want to share, and go to Sharing and Security.
- Click on Share this folder on the network and give that folder a share name. Press OK and you will see a hand appear underneath the folder to show it is shared.

Back to Computer1:
- Right click on My Computer, and go to Map Network Drive
- Path/Folder will be \\Computer2\Share Name
Example: \\Computer2\sharedfiles
- Click on Reconnect at Logon followed by OK.
