Exclamation [Answered] Setup of wireless network

Hi, I got a latop for Christmas, and we recently got a Netgear wireless router. I decided that as all my music is on the PC, and my laptop's memory isn't the best, I'd set up a network to listen to music on my laptop from the PC.

OK, so I managed to get the laptop to connect to the internet through the router, but is it possible to share files with the PC??? The PC is connected to the router via ethernet, and the laptop has a wireless card.

Hi max,

Welcome to PCHF.

- Go to Control Panel, System, Computer Name tab, press Change.
- Give both PC a unique name, but make them both a member of a workgroup called Workgroup.
- Go to Start, Run and type cmd.
- From the command window, type ipconfig to find out the IP address of each PC.

Now that your PC's are successfully connected to each other, you can now share you files.

- From the PC that you want to share you files, right click on the drive or folder you want to share, and go to Sharing and Security.
- Click on Share this folder on the network, and give it a share name.

- From the PC you want to connect with, right click on My Computer, and click on Map Network Drive.
- Select a drive letter you want to use.
- Folder name will need to be \\[PCName or IP]\[Share Name]. For example, if the PC your connecting to is called PC1 and the share name you gave for the folder is called share1, then use \\192.168.0.4\MyShare.

It is a similar process if you want to share printers, and the above instructions can work both ways.

Hi Max!

I see that you've thanked MadMonkey for his explanation.
Did this actually made you solve your problem?
