Default Access denied

I have a small home network (LAN) with a couple of wired PCs and a few wireless ones. I'm having a strange problem getting connected to the MSHome workgroup with one of the computers. It appears as a workgroup computer in the Network places on the other computers; but when you click on it's icon, it says "not found". When I run the setup wizard on it, it goes through the process but ultimately tells me I can't join MSHome because I may not have privileges. I have no problem accessing the internet.
Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

tuneguy

Hey Tuneguy,

Just to make sure, are all of the PCs running on the same OS? Even the difference between XP Home and Prof can actually cause some complications.

Have you checked to make sure that all of the settings on the odd-out computer are the same as your main PC?

Can you see the other network PCs from the trouble PC?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hi, thanks for the reply. So, yeah, they're all running Windows xp home, the TCP/IP and other network setting are the same, but no, the trouble PC can't see anything. Oddly enough, all the other PCs can see the trouble PC, but access is denied when you try to double click on the icon. What do you think?

Thanks,

rf

Hi tuneguy, i'll keep this simple
Trouble computers are now 1 and 2

Can 1 ping 2?
Can 2 ping 1?

To ping a computer, you will need the IP address (from TCP/IP) and then goto Start -> Run -> CMD and type in ping 192.168.0.xxx or whatever your ip address range is

Ok, thanks. The trouble computer can ping all the other computers in the workgroup, but none of the computers in the workgroup can ping the trouble computer. What does that mean?

It means that your Firewall is causing trouble on that computer.

Try disabling it temp. to see if it helps.

You may need to "really" disable it - so if you goto Start -> Run -> services.msc -> Windows Firewall -> right click and select "Stop"
