Default [Resolved] Extremely slow internet connection.

So, I've got AOL broadband, and every few weeks It'll start going really slow (download speeds of about 15 kbps down from around 400 kbps), this will last about a week and it'll start speeding up again. I finally got sick of it and contacted AOL (which I did a while ago and was told the problem had been fixed). After being on the phone for an hour and a half and being put through to 4 different people I was told it was a problem with my ethernet adaptor and the guy on the phone said it needed re-installing.

Was he just making this up, or could this really be the problem? I've tried getting the latest drivers for it (it's a VIA Rhine II), but the only place I can find them is soft32.com where I can't seem to get the download to start.

Any help with this would be highly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hey there ,

Too be honest i wouldn't trust AOL one bit, there one of the worst company's around (in my opinion and alot of others).

It wouldn't hurt to reinstall it if possible, but it think it's probably somthing due to them ( trying to make youu upgrade to faster internet)

If possible i reccomend you change Interner Service Providers .

Somone will most probably be able to give you better information soon .

Hehe i know this may be painful but trying phoneing AOL up see if they can tell you a download link or maybe send a free disc out?.

It wouldnt normally be an ethernet adaptor problem i doubt. Drivers here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...0&SubCatID=124

If they dont work then try talking to AOL via Keyword: Live Help (dont have to sit there waiting for ages)! Can do other stuff at same time.

Funnily enough, the speed start going back up to normal after I got off the phone with him, and I didn't re-install anything. We're gonna go with a new ISP in the new year.

marked as resolved then. Yeh be careful when you ask for your MAC as they will tempt you into 'special' offers probably just to keep you.
