Question [Answered] Xbox 360 to PC Internet connection

First of all I would just like to say Hi! as I have just signed up and this is my first post.

Secondly, I have my pc wirelessly connected to the internet via a wireless router from my dad's pc.

I am just wondering if I would be able to connect my xbox 360 into the internet port in the back of my PC which is not being used now and get a connection?

If not, is there another way in which I could connect my xbox to my pc and get an internet connection? I could plug it into the router next to my dad's pc, But his does not have windows media centre and would therefore not be able to use some of the functions on the xbox.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello Kirton,

Welcome to PCHF.

Setting your X-BOX and PC up this way is possible, using a crossover cable, and setting up internet connection sharing on your PC, but I wouldn't recommend this when playing X-Box online as it tends to be a little laggy.

You said you had a wireless router? Why not connect your X-Box wirelessly?

Yeah I could set my xbox up wirelessly, but since my dad's pc is the one that is connected to the router via a wire... the host pc?? this would mean i wouldn't be connected to my pc, so I would not be able to transfer music etc from my pc to xbox.

Nooo!

As long as your PC is connected to the router via a network cable and not a USB cable, you'll be fine!

Thats the thing though, its not, it is wireless aswell. Does this mean the only option is for my pc to become the server pc and use the router instead of my dad's?

If your really want to set the PC up as the server, you can find details of setting if ICS here: Windows XP Internet Connection Sharing

Wireless routers do normally come with a ethernet port just like your PC. You can use this to connect to the PC instead of the USB cable. This is a diagram, courtesy of Microsoft on how your network should look:
