Question [Resolved] IE 7 upgrade

One of our sales people who travel with a laptop recently upgraded to IE7 and now he is not able to browse the web. Here's more background information:

In his home office, he uses a wired network with a DSL modem. When he upgraded to IE7, he was not at home, but on the road and using a wireless network connection. After the upgrade, he says he was only able to browse the web once. When he tried again the following day, he was unable to browse. Still away from home on a wireless connection.

When he gets home, plugs into his DSL modem - same problem, can't browse the web.

Here's what we have tried so far:
* Looked at network connections and verified that his computer is connected to the network.
* Disabled the wireless network connection shown in the list of network connections (I don't think this should matter but we did it anyway)
* Tried to restore his system settings to the day before the upgrade - the restore failed and I don't know why.
* I considered having him uninstall IE7 but was not sure if IE6 was still installed or not. Searching the hard drive found only IE7. Checking the list of programs in the Add/Remove Programs dialog and only IE7 is listed.

So the question is:
1) How do I get IE7 to work?
2) How do I uninstall IE7 and go back to using IE6?
I have to do either of these 2 options without having a browseable connection to the Internet.

Thanks....................Matt

I hate IE in any shape or form Matt, and what makes me smile is, on Googling this problem, Microsoft has a forum under an https address to deal with said issues.
Why?
I would get your IT/Admin crew to sort this out, why is it your problem?
I understand that you will have to use IE within the corporate/VL environment , but it must be frustrating.

Thumbs down update

As an update --

I had the user uninstall IE7 from Add/Remove Programs. After the uninstall, he was left with an IE icon on his desktop (I think it may have been the IE6 icon). He clicked the icon and was taken to a Microsoft page to download and install IE7. He ran the IE7 install (now that he is home and connected to his DSL modem).

After the install was done, he was able to access the new. He was able to browse different websites.

He closed IE7. Tried to access his email. Got his email. Tried to open IE7 again and was not able to browse. He was back to where he started.

Now we are running a virus scan.

More later.......Matt

Default problem fixed

The virus scan turned up nothing.

Next, we uninstalled IE 7 again from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. This time, we did not reinstall IE 7.

After restarting, what was left was IE 6 which seems to run fine. Problem fixed.

Default IE7 not working

Hengis,

I'd like to know what the problem was also. For some reason, the user's machine was just not compatible with IE7. No idea why.
