Also...with networking...
There are 3 ways you can get access to each computer.
1) the most common...through My Network Places -> Entire Network -> Microsoft Network -> Workgroup -> Computer name.
2) Typing the computer name preceeded with "\\" in Start -> Run or folder browser you have open at the time.
3) Typing the ip address in the same method of option 2.
So, say you have the pc called "HomePC" and the laptop called "Laptop"
You can goto Start -> Run ->
\\homepc
From the laptop, this should give you access to the PC...sometimes this doesn't work, as windows is picky about certain things and will return saying "Access Denied" or words to that effect. If this is the case, you can type in the IP Address of the computer...the IP Address is it's identity on the network...which you can assign yourself, or have it automatically assigned.
Infact, lets check to make sure they are on the same "range".
If you goto Start -> Run -> type in
cmd and push OK(on both computers)
Then type
ipconfig and confirm that both
IP Address and
Subnet mask are the same...The IP address can have the last 3 digits vary, and it is fine...for example 192.168.0.xxx
The ip address can be anything, but as long as the first 3 sets of numbers match with each computer, this is a good sign.
Now, i'm sorry to do this to you - but i'm leaving from work now, and won't be home for probably about an hour. However, if that doesn't make sense, or you need further help, just post and i won't be too much longer (or one of the other techs will answer)

Have a play around, but remember what you've changed. If it "breaks" we can also fix it.
For now, good luck
