Excellent.

Now, can you also tell me the subnet mask and gateway address from the same command as you got the IP address from?

The reason I'm asking for these, is because i'm going to tell you to manually set the IP address, and if it's got these automatically from your router/modem, it will need to know the other 2 things to gain access to the internet.

The subnet mask will most likely be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway (if anything) will most likely be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254

Hehe

Ok, can you please right click My Network Places -> Properties -> Right click LAN -> Properties -> Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Click on Properties.

Now, change it to User the following IP address:
IP Address: 192.168.1.32
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.254

For the laptop (do the same, except replace LAN with Wireless Connection)
and set the following
IP Address: 192.168.1.33
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.254

Once that's done, goto Start -> Run -> Type in cmd and push OK
type in ipconfig /flushdns

And then Start -> Run -> \\computername or \\ipaddress
Tell me if either of those works.

Ok, just going to re-hash what we've already tried and checked.

1) File and Printer sharing is installed and has a tick next to it on both computers?
2) Is this windows XP Pro or Home?

Also another thing i should have asked before...are their any software firewall programs that you have installed? Norton Security or ZoneAlarm?
