Default LAN Messenger

I just installed softros LAN messenger here on our local office network. I'm currently trying to get it to work over our company's VPN. The softros help file has this to say:

"Softros LAN Messenger can work in two or more subnets connected by routers or VPN. Softros LAN messenger will work with subnets if you:
  1. Open UDP 19771 port; TCP/IP 19771 and 19880 ports on your firewalls/routers/VPN hosts.
  2. Make sure that routers/VPN hosts can forward/route/transfer UDP broadcast packets between subnets (these packets have destination MAC address FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF)
  3. Compose the following broadcast list (In Messenger Network Settings)

    xxx.xxx.xxx.255
    yyy.yyy.yyy.255
    zzz.zzz.zzz.255
    and so on...

Here xxx.xxx.xxx, yyy.yyy.yyy, zzz.zzz.zzz - are first three digits of three different subnets. Add as many broadcasts as subnets you have.

You can export once configured network settings and distribute them thought your network or share it on a server."
I am using the windows 2000 server to create the VPN over our Linksys router. Nothing complex at all there. I opened the firewall ports but did not know which IP addresses to forward them to. I added the subnet of "192.168.1.255" to the broadcast list and I'm still not able to use it over the VPN. Anyone have any suggestions or previous experience with the LAN messenger?
