Default D-Link 524 rev.D NEED HELP!

My di-524 rev.d froze on me the other day so I tried restarting. After restarting nothing happened so I tried accessing the configuration and it told me to update firmware. The screen was just a screen with a browse button to select the firmware and a submit button or whatever. So I downloaded the rev.d firmware for my 524 and tried installing it. It would only load about half way and then my router would freeze up again and all the lights would go solid. Please help me out here, this router is essential and I need it to route our internet.

Welcome to the forum, are you hard-wiring the connection before trying to carry out the firmware upgrade...it's recommended and much safer to do that.
