Default Cable modem bypassing router (not getting correct IP)

Hi, my cable modem seems to be just bypassing the router and it's not
even assigning IP addresses, instead, I'm getting the IP address
that's coming directly from the cable modem (default gateway, I think it is...)
this just happened out of the blue, one min I checked whatismyip.com and
it was a 68.204 ip address, and now it's a 70.115 IP address, do you
know what could be causing this or how I can fix it? I tried rebooting the router
and cable modem to no avail. I need my old IP address that came from the router back.

Ah yes, forgot, I have a D-link DL-614+ router. I am going through LAN, not wireless.

Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to get that IP address back.

Basically unless you have a static IP address setup by your ISP then you IP address can keep changing. This can happen when you replace a network card, or if you ISP resets some settings e.t.c

Have you replaced your network card recently or anything on your computer?

Hi,

No. I haven't been changing anything involving my network other than forwarding ports. I did however call D-link and they told me that it was not a problem with the router, but rather my ISP. Do you assume that if I called them I'd be able to get them to assign me that IP address back? I didn't think my IP address would ever change considering it's been a 68. IP address for over 8 months...And why would it change to a 70. IP address? I've never even seen a 70. IP address before other than when I am going directly through the cable modem.

It definately sounds like it would be connected to your ISP changing things.

They may have increase their range of IP addresses or something, it would be worth giving them a call and asking them why it has changed and whether they can change it back.

Is there any major reasor why you would like the IP changed back to 68.?
