Default [Fixed] - Network only copies in one direction

I have two XP Pro computers linked in a p2p setup with ethernet cable, dsl modem and fast ethernet switch. Both can access the internet and both see each other. My problem, each can only copy from but not send to the other. That is, computer 1 can copy a file "from" computer 2 but cannot copy a file "to" computer 2. Likewise, computer 2 can copy a file "from" computer 1 but cannot copy a file "to" computer 1. I can't figure this one out, any ideas?

Thanks,

Hey there and welcome to PCHF.

What software are you using to try to copy the information from PC1 to PC2.

Is it standard windows explorer (network neighbourhood)?

It sounds like it is either related to 'write' permissions or a firewall issue.
Check your permissions and make sure that both machines are allowing FULL read/write access.

Copy through windows explorer (network neighborhood). I am not sure where to look for "read/write" permissions. My drives and folders are "shared" on the network. I use Zone Alarm firewall, but I have disabled it on both computers with the same results.

When you share the drive you need to set the permissions. Check in the sharing properties for a section where you can enable full control.
or
Under network sharing and security make sure you have a tick in the box that says, 'allow network users to change my files'.

Thank you very much! That was it, placing the tick mark in the box. I have been working on this problem for weeks. What a relief. Thanks again.
