Hi i have recently bought a new wireless router for my new laptop so i can use it around the house but i have came across some problems. my modem is a motorola sb4100 surfboard and we have always used the usb cable to join it to the pc but my new router only has a ether net cable. No problem i thought il just use the spare cable i have but for some reason the modem just wont connect to the internet with the ethernet cable so i cant use my router. Ive tried turning of the modem and pc and leaving it but nothing.The activity light on my modem just dont come on,

First of all: Welcome on PCHF and have a great time here!

To try to give an answer on your question: Are you sure the cable you use to connect is the right cable. Some modems/routers needs a cross-cable, others needs straight. And be also sure the cable works.

Second thing: Are you sure you use the right port. There a few ports @ the router, so you need to have the right one. Which router did you bought by the way?

When you use the wireless router, can you access the router? If so, can you access the modem too?
