Default [Resolved] Limited or no connectivity...

Our office just moved into a new building and all the computers are connecting to the network just fine (hard wired) except one laptop. I'm getting a "Limited or no connectivity" error and an IP of 169.254.144.195 with a subnet of 255.255.0.0. I've read some other threads about that issue but it all seems to do with wireless lan. Oh, and when I connect that very same cable to my personal laptop, it works just fine. Any ideas?

It may seem like a silly question but if the PC is Windows XP SP2, does it actually have a limited connection or is the message spurious?

Use a tool such as NetStumbler to test the quality of the connection.

check that it obtains ip address automatically in network conections.

if you don't now how to do this then click on my network places icon on desktop then form down the side chose vire network connections (should be the secound one down) then right click on the network connection the is giveing you the problem properties. on the new window that open got to the general tab from the list in this connection uses the following items find internet protocol (TCP/IP) then click properties on bouth tabs make sure they are set two obtain an ip address automatically and the DNS server as well and then check next tab and do same.

if none of the both work then try changing the name of the laptop to some thing differnt just incase a differnt computer has that name.

OK, it's a bad network card. If I jiggle the cable the connection gets OK and if I jiggle some more it goes bad again. The same cable works without flaws in my laptop and a different cable still gives the same problems in the other laptop. Luckily we have the on site service plan so Sony is sending someone out. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
