[Fixed] Networking problem WinXP pro
I bought a used Toshiba Satellite laptop running WinXP Pro. I have not been successful in adding it to my network.
I think I have covered all the basics for troubleshooting. I am logged on as the Administrator. It is hardwired to the lan. When I plug other computers to the same connection, they work correctly. It is in the correct workgroup and has a unique name. The folders are set for sharing. In Network Connections, it shows me connected by LAN at 100 MBPS. I can access the internet on the computer through the Netgear wireless gateway. Other computers on the network running XP Home see it in <View workgroup computers>.
On the Toshiba, when I click on <View workgroup computers> in My Network Places in XP Pro, I get the following error message: (Workgroup) is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this network resource to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.
Neither the Toshiba or other computers in the workgroup show up.
I went to Network Troubleshooting & ran a scan in Network Diagnostics. The scan showed that the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC (FAILED). This makes no sense since it connects me to the internet through the gateway. Further down in the report, ping DHCPServer = 192.168.0.1 (PASSED) , but pinging itself at IPAddress = 192.168.0.2 (FAILED).
I feel this must be a setting, but I can't figure out which. I haven't been able to find any useful info on google searches.
Can anyone help me with this?
