Default Ubuntu to XP LAN help.

I'm running Ubuntu and I'm very new to Linux.

How would get my machine and a laptop running Windows XP connected as a LAN, I just can't figure out the settings i need.

You need a program called 'Samba', I'm pretty sure this is available through Ubuntu's Synaptic Package Manager. Then I've found a pretty good samba tutorial.
