u only need the rj47 as long as you are only linkin the two computers. If you do not have a Local Area connection on the one compter go to: Start>>Control Panel>>Network Connections>>Create a new Connection (on the left hand side)>>Next>>select "Connect to the Internet">>"Set up my connection manually">>"Connect using a broadband connection that is always on">>Finish. The right click on the connection and select properties>> Highlight "TCP/IP" and click properties on the general tab>>
By default "Obtain IP address automatically" will be selected. change to "Use the following IP address" and type in "IP:192.168.0.1 SUBNET:255.255.0.0 leave the gateway and dns blank" - then repeat for the other PC but change the IP address to 192.168.0.2
-Give that a shot, it might not work, also that is windows xp home, dunno what OS u have. might not work, im not posative, i give it a shot..

thanks zimbo, ive got everything it must be something small that im not doing,

going to try what the other poster put about making a connection,

starting to get a little bored with it all now, thought it was going to be a little easier then this.

finally got it all working,

but cant get the other computer to connect to the internet, Any tips, the ip address etc is all the same, and the connection is configured to share.

thnaks mate but im now sorted, was that i just needed to configure the ip addresses
